WhatsApp blocking Telegram links on Android

Facebook-owned popular messaging service WhatsApp has been found blocking links to rival messaging app Telegram. Although you can send/receive Telegram links, they appear as non-clickable (just plain text) and you cannot copy/forward them (see screenshot below).
In general, it looks like any link having 'telegram' as a sub-domain is affected. Only WhatsApp's Android app is currently exhibiting this behavior, which was first spotted by users on Reddit. A new update pushed yesterday is said to be the culprit - it didn't bump the app version, which remains at 2.12.367.
On its part, Telegram has confirmed the situation, but the company doesn't seem much concerned. "Typically after a media backlash, FB steps back and blames their intelligent filtering for the problem," a Telegram spokesperson said. "We expect the same to happen this time as well." Facebook and WhatsApp are yet to comment.
It's worth mentioning that Telegram recently received some bad press over the fact that the company knowingly allowed members of the Islamic State terrorist organization to use the app.

Egypt Coach Rains Fire, Says Nigeria Will Not Get The Olympic Ticket. culled from NAIJA.COM

The national u-23 coach of Egypt, Hossam El-Badry, has vowed to stop Nigeria’s Dream Team VI from going through to the knockout stages of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations and then consequently getting the ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
Hossam El-Badry
El-Badry boasted that despite their 1 – 1 draw against Algeria in their opening encounter at the ongoing championship in Senegal, his team will beat Nigeria and Mali and progress to the semi-finals, Vanguard reports.

The tactician blamed goalkeeper Mosaad Awad for his lack of concentration which allowed USM Alger attacking midfielder Zinedine Ferhat to equalize for Algeria, after Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ Abdel-Moneam  had put his team ahead in the 54th minute.
He said: Keeper Awad’s error cost the team a goal but such kind of errors are frequent in football.”
We were close to winning the game, especially in the first half, but we failed to capitalise on our goal-scoring chances.
We didn’t lose the game. There are two matches remaining in the group phase and we are determined to earn positive results in these games to advance into the semis.”
The Flying Eagles will square-up against the Egyptians who will be looking forward to their first win at the tournament against Nigeria on Wednesday December 2, 2015.

Soulja Boy and 50 Cent Fire Back at Vivica A. Fox After She Throws Major Shade on Watch What Happens Live

Vivica A. Fox just stirred the pot big time!
Fans may have expected Sunday's Watch What Happens Live to be all about the Real Housewives of Atlanta season premiere. But once host Andy Cohen asked one of his guests about Empire, things took quite the turn.
"What were your thoughts when 50 Cent blamed the season ratings dip on ‘gay stuff?'" Andy asked Vivica.
"First of all, you know the pot called the kettle black is all I'm saying," Vivica responded. Kandi Burruss replied, "That was some tea! That was shade. That was major shade."
When Andy asked if 50 Cent could be gay, Vivica said "he's not," but not before adding, "We had a great time. He just seems like he's got something that's not quite clear." She also brought up a Vibe cover with 50 Cent and Soulja Boy that raised flags for her.

Shortly after making the statements, 50 Cent went to Instagram to set the record straight. "Oh No!!! Now she things I'm gay because I let her lick my Ass. LMAO," he wrote. "Wait, I didn't want her to, she forced me, my hands were tied. 50 Shades of Grey."
Soulja Boy added, "Everybody hit up this cougar..she's single & ready to mingle ...1-800-GrannyDesperateForAttention extension I'mWashedUp."
As for the accusations that 50 Cent doesn't completely support Empire, those rumors began back in October when the rapper shared (then deleted) a page called @industryonblast_ that said the Fox show's ratings fell because of too many celebrity cameos and "gay" plots.

His rep later issued a statement that read, "Mr. Jackson [50 Cent] reposted something on Instagram that originated from a blog in relation to the decrease in Empire's ratings.  When he realized there was additional content in the blog post that he did not agree with, he immediately deleted the post as that is not a reflection of his views at all." Andy later clarified the Instagram message at the end of Sunday's live show.
As of now, Vivica appears to be standing by her remarks. In addition to posting several fans' supportive tweets, the actress wrote, "Boom!! That's was 4 my #EmpireSeason2 family yall!! Drops mic ;-) #WWHL."

France and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is facing preliminary criminal charges as part of an investigation into blackmail over a sex tape involving teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
After being held overnight by police for questioning at a Versailles police station, Benzema was to be brought before a judge later Thursday, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The judge will then decide whether Benzema should be charged or regarded as an ''assisted witness,'' which in French law means he has not been formally charged but could be in the course of the investigation.
A judicial official with direct knowledge of the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, told The Associated Press that prosecutors have asked for Benzema to be charged.
Investigators are trying to find out if the Real Madrid forward played a role in the extortion attempt targeting Valbuena, and if he actually tried to blackmail the Lyon midfielder.
Both Benzema and Valbuena play for France's national team.
Three other people have been handed preliminary charges over the case since October.
Benzema spent about 24 hours in custody in Versailles after being summoned on Wednesday morning in the city just outside Paris.
In the same case, former France international Djibril Cisse was briefly detained last month after being suspected of conspiracy to blackmail, a charge with a maximum prison sentence of five years. Cisse, who has since retired from soccer, was released without seeing a judge.
Benzema's lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, said his client contacted the judge in charge of the case as soon as his name was mentioned in the media last month to let him know he was willing to answer questions from detectives.
''He wants to put an end as soon as possible to this controversy that rose from a case he did not take part in,'' Cormier said Wednesday.
The case started earlier this year when Valbuena decided to take legal action after being contacted by a man claiming to be in possession of an incriminating sex tape.
For Benzema, it's not the first time he has faced problems off the field.
Five years ago, preliminary charges were filed against Benzema and Franck Ribery for soliciting an underage prostitute. Both players were questioned as part of a probe into a suspected network of prostitutes that operated out of a nightclub on Paris' glitzy Champs-Elysees. The case lasted three years before they were acquitted.

New update rolling out to Samsung Z3. culled from GSMarena

A few weeks after receiving its first update, the Tizen-powered Samsung Z3 smartphone - which was launched last month with 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED screen and a quad-core 1.3GHz processor- is getting another software update.
Weighing in at around 600MB, the update (which you can fetch through Samsung Smart Switch as it doesn't seem to be rolling OTA currently) doesn't bring any major changes - a few new icons have been added and there seems to be some change in the screen brightness (see the right hand portion of the image above).
For those who aren't in the know, the Z3 is the South Korean company's second smartphone running its home grown Tizen OS. The first one - dubbed Z1 - was launched back in January this year, and has been quite a success for the company. A recent report from market research firm Strategy Analytics revealed that Tizen has now overtaken BlackBerry OS to become the fourth largest mobile operating system in the world.

Jidenna Expresses His Admiration For Wizkid

Jidenna Expresses His Admiration For Wizkid

wizkid-Jidenna
After his major interview flop, Nigerian/American, Jidenna seems to have made it good with his Nigerian fans.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Jidenna spoke on topics ranging from how much his Nigerian heritage has influenced his music, to the idea behind the now-popular phrase, “Classic Man“, and which Nigerian artiste he feels is gaining global reputation.
Read the interview below: –
What kind of influence do you feel “African” music has on your works?
Oh, it’s profound. Even if the production doesn’t feel African, the vocal delivery — singing through your nose. Specifically, Highlife music from Nigeria. That was the first music I ever heard as a child. So singing through my nose is something I do often, and that’s directly rooted in my heritage.
At large, I feel like we’re entering into a time when hip-hop music in the states, and pop and hiplife and all types of genres across the African continent are emerging, in general. I think they’ll be even more influential as I continue.
Which Nigerian artiste do you feel is ” really blowing up right now”?
Wizkid, of course, in the U.K. — his sound is undeniable. I love his voice, I love his production team. I was just hanging out with them recently. He’s definitely be one where I’m looking forward to what’s to come, and I love his catalog already.
What’s next for you?
I’m going to release a bundle of songs for the fall. I think people are ready for it, they want something new for the fall. “Classic Man” was something that got them through the summer — they need something to keep them cozy as the seasons change.
Also I’m going on tour with Stromae, so I’m really excited about that. He feels like a kindred spirit, like a distant cousin from another continent. We’re definitely different, and have different sounds, but I think the similarities are remarkable, not knowing him personally. I’m really excited.

iheanacho mobbed City July2015 (1)Kelechi Iheanacho has admitted he is eager to get his chance for Manchester City next season.
The Nigerian youngster was in fine form against Roma in a pre-season game, setting up Raheem Sterling and scoring too, as City played out a 2-2 draw within regulation time.
However, the 18-year-old is not unaware of the challenge he faces to break into Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.
“I hope to play this year because I have been training hard and working with the team last season,” he said.
“I hope to break into the first team this year. The manager just says to me to work hard every day”, Iheanacho said.
“I feel very honoured playing with Raheem because he is a very good player,” he added.
“He is intelligent and skillful and strong, so it was very good to play alongside him. He’s very easy to play with.
“I am a young player trying to grow, so I hope to learn some things from him – and also from the other players as well.”

The most successful female athlete of all time just got body shamed in the New York Times

The most successful female athlete of all time just got body shamed in the New York Times

Business Insider
Serena Williams
(Action Images via Reuters/Jason Cairnduff Livepic) This week, Serena Williams won her sixth Wimbledon victory. It was her 21st Grand Slam tournament win overall (and her fourth in a row).
As a woman in the public eye, it seems like even being one of the most gifted athletes isn't enough to stop the media from calling you fat.
On Friday, just as Serena Williams was preparing to clean up her historic sixth Wimbledon victory, the New York Times decided it was a good time to critique her body:
Williams, who will be vying for the Wimbledon title against Garbiñe Muguruza on Saturday, has large biceps and a mold-breaking muscular frame, which packs the power and athleticism that have dominated women’s tennis for years. Her rivals could try to emulate her physique, but most of them choose not to.
The real disgusting part of this, though, is that the Times didn’t really critique Williams. Instead, it let her competitors do it by explaining that they don't envy Williams' physique even as she uses it to dominate them.
In the story, the Times printed the words of several top female tennis players unloading about their body image issues and describing their wish to be seen as small.
“People say, ‘Oh, you’re so skinny, I always thought you were huge,’ ” [Andrea Petkovic] said. “And then I feel like there are 80 million people in Germany who think I’m a bodybuilder. Then, when they see me in person, they think I’m O.K.”
Body image issues are something that should be discussed with a therapist, not a New York Times reporter. That women everywhere have body image issues isn’t exactly news. It’s the opposite of news. It helps no one to have those insecurities validated as worthy of considering by being paraded around in the pages of the New York Times.
I don’t really understand how publishing female tennis players expressing their desire to be perceived as petite does anything other than adding to the public perception that women should be constantly critical of their bodies. And it's all especially silly since Williams' body type that they're belittling is regularly beating them at their own game.
Saying we shouldn't attack muscular women like Williams for their body types isn’t just about sexism or body positivity. It’s about health. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, elite athletes have a significantly higher rate of eating disorders (20%) than the average group of women (about 9%), who in turn have a higher rate of eating disorders than men.
That’s in part because many of the personality traits that a person needs to be an elite athlete also show up in patients with eating disorders. The ANAD says these are all the common psychological profiles in common between elite athletes and people who develop anorexia:

Governments Warn Their Citizens About Traveling to the U.S.

What do foreigners get warned about when traveling to the U.S.? (Photo: Michela Ravasio/Stocksy)
Being topless is outlawed, even for small girls. - German government
Avoid walking alone in less vibrant areas (parts of the Bronx in particular) and parks (including Central Park). - French government
Don’t make flippant remarks about bombs or terrorism, especially when passing through U.S. airports. - British government
These are just a few of the warnings issued by governments abroad for anyone planning to travel to America. You can see what the world has to say about us via government websites (with a little help from Google translate) — and it’s pretty eye opening.
The foreign views about our government (“During Obama’s time in power, America’s global power position eroded”), our laws (“The American authorities are extremely vigilant”), and our culture (“Breastfeeding of babies in public is indeed now the exception in [al]most every state of ‘indecent exposure’”), provide invaluable insight on how we, a reigning superpower, are viewed (or stereotyped) around the world today.
From insulting to spot-on and some even “seriously, WTF?” — here are a few of the most memorable bullet points from other countries’ ministries of foreign affairs about traveling to the U.S.

Cristiano Ronaldo Finds Woman's Missing Phone, Returns It, Takes Her Out To Dinner

Cristiano Ronaldo Finds Woman's Missing Phone, Returns It, Takes Her Out To Dinner

Best weekend in Vegas ever?

As we all know, the feeling that occurs the moment you realize your phone is missing can be one of the most horrifying feelings in the world.
Austin Woolstenhulme sadly experienced that feeling last weekend in Las Vegas. But before she lost it, she luckily snapped an iPhone selfie with her posse. (Yes, she was in town to see Zedd.)

Woolstenhulme and Co.'s smiles surely turned sour once she realized her phone was missing. Luckily, a certain 30-year-old Portuguese footballer happened to find it.
Ronaldo, who's currently in the United States vacationing before rejoining Real Madrid for preseason training, not only returned Woolstenhulme's phone. The superstar samaritan also took Woolstenhulme and her clique out for dinner at the Wynn hotel.

Xiaomi is announcing a new product on June 10

Xiaomi released a teaser about an upcoming water-related event on June 10 in China. The picture and its text mean water, but there is nothing beyond that.

Many have been waiting for a water and dust proof Xiaomi for quite a while, but the company hasn't delivered such a smartphone just yet. This may change on June 10 though.
Xiaomi has quite a big water purification business in China too, so the upcoming event might have nothing to do with smartphones. Instead the teaser might be hinting for a new and cheap water cleansing device. We'll know more on June 10.

Details about the purported Lumia 940 XL surfaces
Not too long, we heard about the details of the purported Lumia 940 XL -- apparently the bigger version of the Lumia 940 which was leaked last week and was spotted on a benchmarking website as well. The folks at NokiaPowerUser, citing their own sources, once again revealed information about the alleged Lumia 940 XL.
Microsoft adopted a new approach with the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, by launching two devices with a similar set of specifications, but with a minor changes in the display and camera department.
As far as the purported Lumia 940 XL is concerned, the handset is expected to feature a bigger 5.7-inch display with a slim design and a metal frame. The processor will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, a 5MP front-facing camera, a 20MP main PureView camera for photos and videos, and will feature native pen support as well.
The report continues to mention that it will support Continuum for phones which was demonstrated at Build 2015, which adapts the interface according to the display its connected to. Furthermore, it will also support USB Type-C support as well as an Iris scanner.
There's no official confirmation from Microsoft about the existence of any such device, except that there will be a flagship Windows 10 Mobile device later this year. Windows 10 will be available for desktop in July, followed by other devices, including Windows 10 Mobile. So, we'd suggest our readers to take this with an appropriate amount of salt until the software giant reveals information about it.
Stay tuned to WinBeta, we'll update you as soon as we get to hear anything more about the upcoming flagship device from the Redmond-based company.

A Guangdong man claims to have been sneaking into women's rest rooms and eating their faeces for eight years.

According to the Shanghaiist, the man was spotted entering the women's rest rooms at a shopping centre in the Pengjiang district of Jiangmen city, Guangdong, and eating faeces there.
"He usually comes between 8am to 10am and then again at around 3pm," a security guard at the shopping plaza said.
He walks in on women before they're able to finish flushing the toilet, the guard added.
When asked by a reporter why he targeted the women's toilets, the man said, "It's more tasty."
The reporter then asked him if he knew that this wasn't healthy, to which the man replied, "I've eaten shit for eight years. I feel better after eating it."
The toilets have now been locked up, and residents are calling for the man to receive treatment.

Why Microsoft is BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s Likely Merger Partner And Not Xiaomi

Why Microsoft is BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s Likely Merger Partner And Not Xiaomi

Boston, MA – (NYSEPOST) – 05/21/2015 – BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s current valuation and sentiments in the Street is built around its security solution business that has continued to outperform as the hardware business continues to struggle.  The company’s business model has over the years shifted towards the software side as questions continue to be asked why the company continues to produce smartphones amidst low returns.
Weakness on the hardware side of the business has seen the Canadian company touted as an acquisition target for the likes of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Xiaomi.
 Potential BlackBerry Suitors
Microsoft acquiring BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) would make a lot of sense as it is also struggling on the hardware side of the business. There has been talk that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may push on a deal valuing BlackBerry at $7 billion as it looks to leverage the company’s security solutions that are extremely valuable. Any company looking to acquire BlackBerry will not be doing it because of its smartphone business, but because of its rich patents especially in areas of security.
Xiaomi is also believed to be a potential buyer of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) as one of the ways of enriching its patent portfolio. Such a deal occurring looks unlikely as the company continues to provide security solutions to key government installations around the globe. The U.S and China have not had the best of relationships and regulators are likely to block any deal of the sort out of fear of the Chinese government scrutiny.
BlackBerry’s QNX Platform
Xiaomi has been touted as a possible acquirer because it is the only hardware giant with a limited number of patents compared to other companies; a weakness that continues to limit its ability to expand out of China.
BlackBerry has made huge strides on the security aspect of devices and with the adoption of smartphone constantly on the rise Samsung and Microsoft may look to use this opportunity to sharpen their edge in the business.
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s QNX car platform is another opportunity that the likes of Microsoft and Samsung would wish to get hold of, to gain direct access to the internet of vehicles. A space that is on the rise thanks to the ongoing development of semiautonomous car features.

ZTE’s Nubia Z9 runs out of stock in just 10 minutes

ZTE’s Nubia Z9 runs out of stock in just 10 minutes

It took just 10 minutes for all the stocks of ZTE’s Nubia Z9 smartphone to be sold off in China where it went on sale yesterday. This new device is known for grabbing a bezel-less front, with its display seamlessly covering its entire surface.
Three different versions of the Nubia Z9 were made available by ZTE, namely Classic, Elite and Exclusive. They were purchasable in China at 3499 CNY ($565 or Rs 35900), 3999 CNY ($645 or Rs 41000) and 4499 CNY ($726 or Rs 46200), respectively. These prices don’t actually challenge competitors, but the bezel-less display factor has indeed steered a lot of Chinese buyers towards the phone.
As revealed by GizmoChina, it’s quite hard to get the 4G supporting Nubia Z9 via third-party reseller right now. Even if some are offering it, they are asking for much more than the normal retail values of the devices.
ZTE Nubia Z9
This new ZTE offering comes fitted with a 5.2-inch 1080p full HD display that covers most of its front surface. It is powered by the in-demand Snapdragon 810 processor which offers octa core prowess and an Adreno 430 GPU. Its Classic edition ships with 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM, whereas its Exclusive and Elite editions grab 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.
Here’s a neat look at the specs of the ZTE Nubia Z9:

BlackBerry Leap Review -- It Still Means Business

BlackBerry Leap Review -- It Still Means Business

2
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- BlackBerry (BBRY - Get Report) still means business.
The company has been making wireless messaging/email-centric devices for more than two decades, and though it has recently lost nearly all of its market share to Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL), BlackBerry is still producing a solid platform and worthy devices to help power users take care of business.
Without much fanfare BlackBerry has released its new Leap smartphone, a candy-bar shaped handset without a keyboard. The Leap is like an updated Q10, which was a larger version of the company's first modern-day device, the Z10.
Must Read: 10 New Stocks Billionaire David Einhorn Loves

BlackBerry is well aware that modern-day businesses can use Androids or iPhones to get things done but it's still making devices for the super-power-users of the world, who will hopefully appreciate how the company's latest Hub software system excels at handling numerous messaging accounts in a single, secure, easy-to-use app.
The Leap measures 5.67 by 2.87 by 0.37 inches and weighs 6 ounces. It provides users with a 5.0-inch HD display (1280 by 720 pixels, 294 ppi, 16:9), a 1.5 GHz, dual-core, Qualcomm (QCOM) Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion card slot (up to an additional 128 GB), and 8 and 2 megapixel cameras back and front.
These are not the most impressive specs you'll see for a high-end smartphone. Obviously, BlackBerry thinks the components they've chosen deliver enough raw oomph to accomplish its goals.
The Leap runs on the latest Blackberry operating system, version 10.3. It runs the most modern BlackBerry apps just like its most recent models such as the super-sized Passport and the very familiar-looking Classic. Modern BlackBerry smartphones can also download and run a number of Android apps from the Amazon (AMZN) online store. There are thousand of choices available, but in reality, it's nowhere near the breadth and depth of apps currently available for Android or iOS devices.
Leap features BlackBerry's Blend app which integrates messaging, media and content between the user's smartphone, computer and tablet. And, BlackBerry Assistant is the company's digital assistant (think Siri or Microsoft's (MSFT) Cortana) allowing users to use voice and text commands to manage both work and personal items, as well as native BlackBerry 10 applications.
We found Leap to be worthy of the BlackBerry name. It's fast, easy to master and is unequaled in its ability to deliver messages in one location. The app allows me to handle mail, discussions and notifications from a minimum of four email accounts, plus Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn in one location. The system does exactly what it sets out to do. Leap is rock solid when it comes to making voice calls as well.
This phone would probably not be my first choice for users with a single email account and who want a smartphone just to view YouTube videos and play some games. On the other hand, for businesses that need to deliver the best, most-secure messaging system to their employees while de-emphasizing unnecessary bells and whistles, the Leap is a real option.
One of the Leap's best features, and possibly the most appealing to bulk purchasers, is its price. Without a service agreement, Leap sells for $275 on the BlackBerry's website. That puts it squarely in the same category as less expensive Android models from Motorola, Asus and others, as well as previous-generation iPhones.
Overall, the Leap is a very good smartphone and a terrific business tool that BlackBerry is offering at super-attractive price.

Lionel Messi is the highest-paid soccer player in the world and it's not even close

Beyonce And Jay Z Allegedly Caught Fighting In Public

Jay Z and Beyonce are just like any ordinary married couple who have misunderstanding in their relationships as they are reported to have been spotted having a heated argument .
For the first time I can remember, the two lost their cool in public where at least four other diners and a couple of waiters in a private room witnessed them having a blowout fight. Granted this intel only comes from two people who were in the room but once tabloids and wallets start digging perhaps they can get the waiters to spill.
The two were at dinner and had just had appetizers brought to the table.
A bodyguard was in one corner of the room seated at a table looking around but mostly looking at his phone. Beyonce started speaking louder and louder and Jay tried to get her to be quiet while looking around. The bodyguard started watching the scene and stopped looking at his phone but did not get up.
Things settled down when Jay whispered in Beyonce’s ear. About ten minutes later Beyonce said something else and whatever Jay said didn’t seem to work. He shrugged his shoulders and Beyonce started pointing at him and leaned over the table and got closer to his face and started talking louder.
He then said one last thing, pushed back her chair and threw her napkin on the table before getting up and headed towards the door. She motioned for the bodyguard to follow her and walked out the door to the room to the main part of the restaurant. By the time she got to the door, Jay had thrown literally a stack of money on the table and was chasing after her.

The Game Is rapper going after Justin Bieber's ex girlfriend?

The Game and Justin Bieber's ex chick, Chantel Jeffries were spotted grabbing a bite at The Ivy restaurant
in California on Tuesday afternoon [March 24].
According to TMZ, sources close to the model claim even though the rapper won't mind going down with Chantel, he really just wants her as the vixen in his upcoming video shoot.
Chantel however, is allegedly dating singer The Weekend while The Game is connected to his ex fiancee, Tiffney Cambridge.
Well, knowing The Game too well and how he used his brief relationship with Khloe Kardashian for publicity, there's no doubt he knew the press will assume an affair with Chantel too... good for his new video!

Nigeria: Al Jazeera Demands Release of Its Two Detained Nigerian Journalists

Al Jazeera demands the release of its two Nigerian journalists who have been detained in Maiduguri by Nigerian forces since Tuesday morning.
Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris and producer Ali Mustafa were detained in their hotel room after they were returning from covering a story on the Nigerian forces fighting Boko Haram in Borno State. The story was part of Al Jazeera's special coverage on the Nigerian elections.
After military officials questioned the men in their hotel rooms, their camera equipment was confiscated. Both men have been kept in their hotel rooms and are officially detained until further notice.
According to a reported military statement, both men were questioned and restrained in their room because they were operating without "protection, accreditation or due clearance" - despite having just completed filming with the cooperation of the military.
Additionally, both Messrs. Ahmed and Mustafa are officially accredited by the Independent Electoral Commission in Abuja with the clearance to report from anywhere in Nigeria during the entire election period.
The military statement also said that both men were said to be 'loitering' in various locations, however they were actually detained in their hotel rooms.
The statement gave a reminder about warnings given to "foreign" journalists, but both Messrs Idris and Mustafa are Nigerian nationals.
Mr. Idris has rich experience reporting in northern Nigeria," Al-Jazeera said. "Last year he was the first international journalist to reach Chibok and interview families affected by the mass kidnap of schoolgirls by Boko Haram."
An Al Jazeera spokesperson said: "We call on the Nigerian authorities to release Ahmed Idris and Ali Mustafa; they have all the relevant paperwork to report on the Nigerian elections and stories related to the election.
Both men had just finished filming a story on the military with their cooperation. They were not 'loitering', but were in the hotel room and had only passed through the restricted areas of Yobe and Borno State to get to Maiduguri."
"Both men are accredited and respected Nigerian journalists. As Nigerian citizens they are allowed to travel their country freely. Al Jazeera calls on the authorities to end this matter swiftly by returning all their equipment and releasing both men without conditions."
Ahmed Idris and Ali Mustafa are part of four Al Jazeera English teams reporting on the election in Africa's most populous country and largest economy.

Rihanna's response to Chris Brown being a dad is pretty mature

Rihanna's response to Chris Brown being a dad is pretty mature

Chris Brown is now a father, but his comment about getting Rihanna pregnant bothers us

At least we hope so. Chris Brown just recently got the surprise of a lifetime when he found out he is the father of a 9-month-old baby girl. TMZ reportedly found out the singer is happy about being a father. The baby's mother is a model named Nia, 31, whom Brown has reportedly known for years.
TMZ says the two are on good terms but are not romantically involved. The 25-year-old rapper has been on-again-off-again with model Karrueche Tran since 2011, but Brown's most famous ex, singer Rihanna, responded to the news with the utmost professional and mature response ever.
Hollywood Life reported that an insider told them she was "shocked" and said, "[She] had to read the reports four times before it finally sunk in." Of course, they continued, saying, " ...if it's true, Chris will be a good father and take care of his little girl."
Rihanna is much more judicious than I would have been given not only his terrible track record of taking care of his loved ones, but most recently, his interview with The Breakfast Club just a week and a half ago. The one where he said his ideal situation would have been to get Rihanna and Tran pregnant at the same time. On the morning show, he was asked about having kids, and he said, "At the time when I was doing my wam wam with both [Rihanna and Karrueche Tran], get both of them, then boom, I'm good. That would be my ultimate boom!"
Well, isn't that pleasant?
Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.
So, while we don't have any details about formal child support or legal confirmation that this cute little girl is actually his, given his track record on the subject, I wouldn't really find it a huge surprise if she is his child.
Maybe this will cause the outburst-driven, tantrum-throwing, domestic abuser to grow up and take responsibility for his actions.
