'FED UP LIONEL MESSI' TO LEAVE BARCELONA
Lionel Messi will quit La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer if either Chelsea or Manchester City
come up with a mammoth £500 million. That's the latest news coming out
of The Sun, who quote a 'top source' as saying, "Leo's minded to leave
Barca. He is completely fed up with so many things at the club that it
is difficult to see a way forward."
OUR VIEW
Only
a few days ago, this story would have seemed utterly ridiculous -
despite the nonsensical suggestion that the price would be £500m, when
it is an open secret that Messi's release clause is actually 250 million
Euros - which is just under £200m (The Sun's piece does actually
acknowledge this, and slips in the fact that their fanciful £500m is
transfer fee plus wages over six years. Not that you'd know it from
looking at the back page.) Yet following Messi's benching against Real
Sociedad on Sunday, the sacking of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and the resignation of Carlos Puyol, this has actually got people thinking that it could really happen. Chelsea have denied they can afford him but this is the transfer window - anything can happen.;

LUIS SUAREZ TO KISS GOODBYE TO BARCELONA
Barcelona's Luis Suarez (Reuters)
The Daily Mail reports that the Uruguayan's future in Spain is far from certain following the dismissal of director of football Andoni Zubizarreta and the resignation of his assistant Carles Puyol this week, with England's four biggest clubs all said to be "monitoring the situation".
Although the Catalans are understood to want to hang on to the former Liverpool hitman, at least for the moment, a change of regime at the club in the summer following elections in June, could see Suarez deemed surplus to requirements after an indifferent start to the 2014-15 campaign under Luis Enrique.
The 27-year-old is coming under increasing pressure to find his goalscoring form after moving from Liverpool last July for a reported 94m Euros, having hit the back of the net just three times in 12 games, and the English quartet are keeping abreast of his situation.
Even so, Suarez's position at Barca is further complicated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport's ruling to uphold the transfer ban imposed on the club for breaking the rules regarding young players from outside Spain, meaning they would be unable to bring in a suitable replacement.
OUR VIEW
If it weren't for the transfer ban, this story would seem plausible given the turmoil at Camp Nou. After all, if even Lionel Messi is up for grabs then the only thing off limits is probably a change of the club strip to pink and green stripes. Furthermore, presidential elections for Spain's big two often swing on promises of big signings - so if Andreu Bartomeu is turfed out, it might well be because a rival candidate can deliver another top striker. If that were to be, say, Sergio Aguero then Suarez could indeed be cut loose to make way and keep FFP rules at bay...
But there IS a transfer ban, and one that is not likely to be lifted despite Barcelona's insistence that a higher Swiss court might yet overturn FIFA, FIFA's appeals committee, and the all-knowing Court of Arbitration for Sport. And while the ban remains, Barca will absolutely not let Suarez go.

LIONEL MESSI ULTIMATUM: 'SACK LUIS ENRIQUE, OR I LEAVE!'
It’s been a shocking few days at Barcelona, but the bust-up between Messi and Enrique has come to a head, and one of the pair will leave the club, according to reports on the continent.
OUR VIEW: Messi worth £250 million? We frankly doubt that anyone would pay half that sum given (a) his form this year and (b) this apparent outburst of bolshiness. Not to mention the havoc that such a signing would wreak on a team's hopes of staying on the right side of the FFP rules. That won't stop Chelsea fans getting excited though.

BUSQUETS TO DISAPPOINT PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS
Sergio Busquets of Barcelona (C) (Reuters)
Barcelona
midfielder Sergio Busquets will turn down offers from Premier League
clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United to sign a new
contract with the Catalan giants. That’s according to the Daily Star,
who report that "Barca have made extending his contract as priority and
will offer him a new deal next month."
OUR VIEW: The
versatile Spaniard has been linked with a move to the Premier League
for a while but he has been an increasingly influential member of Luis
Enrique’s side who lag only a point behind Real Madrid in La Liga. He will surely stay put.
